UNICEF

UNICEF is the driving force that helps build a world where the rights of every child are realized. They have the global authority to influence decision-makers, and the variety of partners at grassroots level to turn the most innovative ideas into reality.  That makes them unique among world organizations, and unique among those working with the young. They believe that nurturing and caring for children are the cornerstones of human progress.  UNICEF was created with this purpose in mind – to work with others to overcome the obstacles that poverty, violence, disease and discrimination place in a child’s path.  They believe that we can, together, advance the cause of humanity.

With UNICEF, Key Club will be focusing on the ELEMINATE Project. With The ELIMINATE Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of 60,000 innocent babies and 30,000 mothers each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.
To eliminate MNT from the Earth by 2015, 129 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take $110 million — and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.

What you can do:
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF: Get boxes from UNICEF and collect change from around your community in the month of October. This is a fantastic way to rise quite a bit of money.

Partner with a Library: Become involved at a local library and teach children about the dangers facing other children around the world. While it might seem odd, this is actually a great way to educate the next generation of volunteers.

Form a Club: Form a UNICEF high school club. There is a tool kit online which can help you get started.

Shop UNICEF: Purchase UNICEF greeting cards and gifts online, and you can make a real difference in the lives of children around the globe.

Tap Project: Research the Tap Project and try and get local restaurants to participate.
